If you are currently enrolled in a community college, you can use Reconnect to continue your education. Contact your academic advisor to let them know you have been accepted into the Reconnect scholarship.

If you are not currently enrolled in community college, you must follow these three steps:

  1. Apply to a Michigan community college and decide which associate degree or Pell-eligible occupational certificate program you want to enroll in.

  2. Submit a Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA). You are still eligible for tuition assistance whether you receive the Pell grant or not, but you MUST complete a FAFSA. If you receive a Pell grant, those dollars will be applied to your student account first. For more information on how to complete a FAFSA application, go to Fafsa.gov. Start on this right away, and contact the Federal Student Aid Customer Service line at 1-800-433-3243 if you are having any trouble.

  3. Enroll in your local community college and start your first six credits (or more) of coursework.

If you need help with any of the three steps outlined above, call the Customer Care Center at 888-447-2687.

IMPORTANT NOTE: Reconnect ONLY Covers In-District Tuition

Reconnect provides 'in-district' tuition, mandatory fees, and contact hours at any of Michigan's public community colleges. If you live within a community college district and attend that college, those costs will be totally covered. If you do not live in a community college district or attend a college for which you're not considered 'in-district', Reconnect will pay up to the in-district amount and you will need to pay the remaining balance.

To determine if you are an in-district student at a particular college, visit our List of Colleges page where you can find the contact information for each college and call the college. The college is prepared to help you submit your application, fill out a FAFSA, explore the programs the college offers, and set up an appointment with a Career Counselor at the college.
